spread out

much less than stiff in sleep-wrinkled clothes he sat
in heavy boots worn loose on the tips of his toes
spread out arms across the flat back of the bench
kicking his legs out soaking up the sidewalk
lit and lipped a long tipped cigarette
stared straight as he could to the street
caught hard and held an approaching woman
in the restless corners of his heavy-breathing eyes

days and hours outside
