Temple to Augustan Fortune

It was customary for a Roman city to build a temple to the deified emperors of Rome. This temple was dedicated to Caesar Augustus, and located just a block from the forum. Perhaps if the Pompeiians had honored the Emperor with a more centrally located temple he might have saved their city . . . .

[Brick-faced ruins of a high-standing Roman temple.]

Tourists wander past the temple, now bereft of its roof, without even noticing it. In search of grander game, perhaps.
